First, a note about Hopelab’s commitment to your privacy:

Hopelab deeply values its role in improving youth mental health. Central to that role is safeguarding the privacy of personal information. This Privacy Policy describes our privacy practices in user-friendly terms, including what information we collect in order to facilitate our Site and our Services, what we use your information for, how we may share your information when needed, and the rights and preferences you may have with respect to your personal information.

Here are a few things we want you to know:

• Definitions. So we are clear about the terms we are using, when we use the term “Personal Information” in this Privacy Policy, we mean information about you that is personally identifiable to you, such as your contact information (e.g., name, address, email address, or telephone number) and any other nonpublic information that is associated with such information. And when we talk about our “Partners,” we mean organizations that are also dedicated to the well-being of young people and with which we collaborate by, among other things, sharing Personal Information; our Partners are listed on our Site.
• We only use your Personal Information for purposes described in this Privacy Policy. We know it is important to you that you be aware of the reasons your information is handled by Hopelab.
• We do our best to minimize the amount of Personal Information we store. We understand the importance of keeping to a minimum the personal and sensitive data that we may maintain.
• We do not sell your Personal Information without your consent.

• We offer you ways to control your Personal Information and express your preferences.
• We provide you with a variety of ways to exercise control over your Personal Information, including making certain data collection optional and providing you with unsubscribe options.

This Privacy Policy describes how Hopelab handles Personal Information that we collect through our digital properties that link to this Privacy Policy, including our Site and Services, as well as through social media, our marketing activities, and other activities described in this Privacy Policy. • Marketing data, such as your preferences for receiving our marketing communications and details about your engagement with them; and
• Data not specifically listed here, which we will use as described in this Privacy Policy or as otherwise disclosed at the time of collection.

Information Collected Automatically. We and our service providers may automatically log information about you, your computer or mobile device, and your interaction over time with our Site and Services, our communications, and other online services. This information may include:

• Device and browser data, such as your computer’s or mobile device’s operating system type and version, your device’s manufacturer and model, browser type, screen resolution, device type (e.g., phone, tablet), IP address, unique identifiers including any identifiers of devices you use, language settings, mobile device carrier, and information indicating the geographic area where your device was located when you accessed our Site; and

2. How We Use the Personal Information We Collect

• To create, build, and develop – and help our Partners create, build, and develop – higher-quality, more useful products and services;

• To provide you with updates about our Services and the products and services of our Partners;

We convert Personal Information to anonymous and de-identified data by removing information that makes the data personally identifiable to you. Marketing. We and our service providers may collect and use your Personal Information for purposes of marketing our own Services and the products and services of our Partners. We may send you direct marketing communications, including our newsletters that discuss Hopelab and our Partners. You may opt out of our marketing communications as described in the “Your Rights and Choices” section below, in which case, we will not collect or use your Personal Information for marketing purposes. We will never share your Personal Information with third parties for purposes of those third parties marketing to you, even if you don’t opt out of marketing communications.

With Your Consent. In some cases, we may specifically ask for your consent to collect, use, or share your Personal Information, including when consent is required by law.

Analytics. We may use your Personal Information for analytics purposes, such as to help us understand user activity on the Site, including which pages are most and least visited and how users move around the Site, as well as user interactions with our emails. Hopelab may share Personal Information with third parties for the following purposes:

 Access to your Personal Information by our service providers is limited to the information reasonably necessary for the provider to perform its limited function for Hopelab. We also contractually require that our service providers not use or disclose your Personal Information for any purpose other than providing us with products and services.

4. Your Health Information

In some cases, we may collect Personal Information about you which identifies your past, present or future physical or mental health status (which we call “Health Information”).

We may collect Health Information directly from you through interviews, sessions, survey responses, or other means; we may also receive Health Information about you from one of our Partners. Health Information may include information on the health care services you have received, your mental health conditions, and your experiences with different health care providers.

We may use your Health Information to provide Services to you. For instance, we may use your Health Information to study youth preferences related to digital health innovations and help our Partners develop or improve mental health apps or other tech solutions aimed at improving the well being of young people. We may share your Health Information with your Partners, but before doing so we will ask for your consent to share your Health Information when required under the law.

This Privacy Policy applies equally to your Health Information as it does to other types of Personal Information about you. You may exercise the rights specified in Section 6 with respect to any Health Information we maintain about you.

5. How Long We Keep Your Personal Information

We will retain your Personal Information only for as long as is necessary for the purposes set forth in this Privacy Policy. We will retain and use your Personal Information to the extent necessary to comply with our legal obligations (for example, if we are required to retain your data to comply with applicable laws), resolve disputes, and enforce our legal agreements and policies.

6. Your Rights and Choices

You may also follow the instructions for opting out in any promotional message you get from us. If you opt out of getting marketing communications, you will continue to receive communications from us about your relationship with us where permitted by law. You also have the right to:

• Request that we restrict the processing of your Personal Information (i) if you contest its accuracy, (ii) if the processing is unlawful and you oppose the deletion of that information, (iii) if it is no longer needed for the purposes set forth in this Privacy Policy but you require it for the establishment, exercise, or defense of a legal claim, or (iv) if you object to profiling (i.e., decisions based on automated processing of your Personal Information that could have legal or similarly significant impact on you);
• Receive Personal Information that you provided to us in a structured, commonly used, and machine-readable format and to transmit those to another provider, provided these are processed based on your consent or our contract; and
• Lodge a complaint with your relevant data protection authority.

We pledge that your exercising of these rights will not have any impact on your ability to participate in surveys, studies, or other Services offered by Hopelab or use the products offered by our Partners, and you will continue to be able to use our Site if you exercise your rights (although certain Site functions could be more limited).

7. Children

Hopelab is committed to protecting the privacy of children. Our Site and Services are not targeted to children. However, we do conduct studies that may involve the collection of Personal Information from children through means other than our Site, such as via discussion groups for adolescents. Hopelab will always obtain the consent of a parent or legal guardian before collecting Personal Information from a child under the age of 13 as part of a study.

8. International Data Transfer

We are headquartered and solely operate in the United States and do not transfer data internationally.

9. Linked Sites

Our Site may contain links to websites operated by companies other than Hopelab (“Third-Party Sites”) that we believe may be of interest to you. Hopelab generally does not disclose your Personal Information to these Third-Party Sites without obtaining your consent, except that we may disclose your Personal Information to Partners in accordance with the terms of this Privacy Policy and we may use cookies to share your data in accordance with our Cookie Policy. Hopelab does not endorse and is not responsible for the privacy practices of these Third-Party Sites. If you choose to link to one of these Third-Party Sites, you should review the privacy policy posted on the other website to understand how that Third-Party Site collects and uses your Personal Information.

10. Hopelab Security Procedures

The security and confidentiality of your information are extremely important to us. We have implemented technical, administrative, and physical security measures to protect Personal Information from unauthorized access and improper use. We review our security procedures in order to consider appropriate new technology and methods. However, no data transmission over the Internet or other network can be guaranteed to be 100% secure. As a result, while we strive to protect information transmitted to us through our Site or otherwise, we cannot and do not guarantee the security of any information you transmit to us, and you do so at your own risk. The following are some of the security procedures that Hopelab uses to protect your privacy:

• Hopelab uses firewalls to protect information held in our servers.
• Hopelab utilizes Secure Socket Layer (SSL) encryption in transmitting Personal Information to our servers. In order to take advantage of encryption technology, you must have an Internet browser that supports 128-bit encryption.
• Hopelab closely monitors the limited number of Hopelab employees who potentially have access to your Personal Information.
• Hopelab requires all Hopelab employees to agree to abide by our Privacy Policy and be subject to disciplinary action if they violate it.
• Hopelab backs up our systems to protect the integrity of your Personal Information.
